Asheville North Carolina - Great Smoky Mountains
Consistently recognized as one of the best places to live and work by regional and national publications, Asheville is a delight for both residents and visitors. The serene mountain setting and nearby hot springs were responsible for the city’s initial notoriety as a mecca for healing in the early 19th century. This reputation attracted the wealthy and famous George Vanderbilt to the area, where he built his palatial Biltmore House. Early 20th century architecture has survived in many of the downtown area’s municipal, office, and church buildings. In addition, cultural, fine arts, quality dining, and shopping opportunities abound in and near the city.
